Nature

The Forêt domaniale de Palaiseau can be reached by public transport and explored on foot or by bicycle. The artificially created woodland covers 56 hectares and was opened to the public in 1981.

The Parc naturaliste forms an ecological corridor of trees, shrubs and ponds. The existing wet depressions promote biodiversity and characteristic species of the plateau, including the great crested newt and water-starwort.

Lac de Lozère is located next to the Yvette and is equipped with pontoons and a dovecote.

La Troche sandstone quarry is an approved climbing site. La Troche has three climbing circuits: a yellow, a blue and a red one. There are also 167 marked climbing boulders of varying difficulty levels.

Culture

The Church of Saint Martin was built in the 12th, 13th and 14th centuries and has been a listed historic monument since 1930. It houses a crypt, a choir, a 14th-century statue of the Virgin and Child, and an 18th-century wooden altarpiece.

The Rigole domaniale des Granges belongs to a 200-kilometre network of waterways created to supply the fountains and water features of the basins at the Palace of Versailles.

The statue of Joseph Bara was erected in 1881 in honour of this young resident of Palaiseau.

The Musée Palaisien du Hurepoix is dedicated to the former province of Hurepoix. It displays a collection of old objects that bear witness to the lives of the province of Hurepoix’s ancestors.

The Château de la Saussaye is a representative villa for stays dating from the late 19th century.

History

The Batterie de la Pointe was built between 1874 and 1879 as part of the Séré de Rivières fortification system and covers approximately 5.5 hectares.
