Culture and History
The Musée Delta is dedicated to aviation, particularly the delta wing and one of its inventors, Nicolas Roland Payen. Visitors can also enter the fourth Concorde aircraft to be built.
The Château d’Athis is protected as a historic monument; it was listed by decree on 19 October 1928. The Chapelle du collège Saint-Charles retains visible pointed-arch ribs made of reinforced concrete and stained-glass windows from the Mauméjean workshop. The chapel also bears the designation “Architecture contemporaine remarquable”.
The Noyer Renard district is recognised as heritage of regional interest and offers a trail of puzzles and discoveries about its history and architecture. The Château d’Avaucourt has a 17th-century rusticated nymphaeum in the retaining wall of the rear terrace.
The Église Saint-Denis contains the tomb slab of Jean d’Athis from the 13th century, which was listed as a protected object on 6 April 1979. Its furnishings also include a balustrade from the organ gallery, which was classified as a protected object on 30 September 1911.
The Médiathèque Simone de Beauvoir offers exhibitions, performances, discussion events, as well as creative and digital workshops.
River and Nature
The “En Seine!” audio tour takes approximately one and a half hours and was created in 2021 by pupils from the CM1 class at École Saint-Exupéry in Athis-Mons. It covers 2.5 km along the Seine between Athis-Mons and Ablon and explores the use of the river in the 19th century.
The 18-hectare Coteau des Vignes is a sensitive natural area (ENS) and can be reached on foot from Parc d’Avaucourt via old stone steps. The area has diverse flora and fauna, including birds, mammals and amphibians. Parc d’Avaucourt has been designated a protected area since 1942, while the town hall of Athis-Mons is a historic monument.
At Promenade Sinaia, at the confluence of the Orge and the Seine, there is an area with benches and semicircular seating steps where visitors can look out over the river.
The Maison de l’Environnement et du Développement durable at Paris-Orly Airport offered free tours in the airport’s public area during the second quarter of 2024.
