The Grande Saline of Salins-les-Bains was in operation for 1,200 years, until 1962. Today, ThermaSalina has a ground-level facility covering 2,800 m² and featuring naturally saline water. Culture
The Grande Saline houses a 13th-century underground gallery with a still-functioning hydraulic pump from the 19th century. A guided tour descends to the two vaulted wells used for extracting salt water.
Fort Saint-André was rebuilt by Vauban from 1674 onwards. It includes hidden rooms, military buildings, defensive walls and gardens, and offers views over the town and the surrounding landscape.

The hike from Salins-les-Bains to Mont Poupet leads from the spa town to the summit of Mont Poupet and offers views of the Jura Mountains. Further afield in the region are also the mountains Montagne de Fresse and Montagne du Laveron.
