History

The parish church of Saint-Agnan in Chaux-lès-Port already existed in 1505. From 1763 to 1765, it was rebuilt by the architects and building contractors Claude-Antoine and Charles Frin.

The Church of Saint-Agnan preserves ten furnishings and objects protected under heritage conservation laws and listed as movable monuments in 1974 and 1994.

The Grande Baume cave was inhabited during the Neolithic period, the Bronze Age, the Hallstatt period and the Roman period.

Three crosses mark the area around Chaux-lès-Port. The stone cross standing east of the village dates from 1884 and bears a damaged figure of Christ.

Along what is now Rue Jean-Emile Lotscher, adjoining farmhouses have stood since the late 17th century. The surviving farmsteads are arranged along three axes, comprising living quarters, a barn and a stable.

The Maison Rapin is one of the oldest houses in the village. The mantel of a fireplace on the ground floor that has since been destroyed bore the date 1738, engraved in a coat of arms.

The former presbytery has an orderly façade with three axes, one full storey and an attic. The central section of the façade ends in a covered gable.

Landscape

The Étang de la Velotte on the banks of the Saône is a peaceful place for observing nature.

The Voie bleue runs through Chaux-lès-Port along the banks of the Saône, from Conflandey towards Port-sur-Saône.

The Grande Baume cave opens into a layer of Bajocian rock located around ten metres above the Saône. Its large entrance faces east, towards the village of Chaux-lès-Port.

Surroundings

Several historical sites are located in the wider area around Chaux-lès-Port: the Abbaye de Clairefontaine is a historical site, as is the Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Charité. The Abbaye de Bithaine is also a historical site.
