Calacuccia: Holiday apartments and houses

Nature

Lac de Calacuccia lies at an altitude of 793 m south of Calacuccia and was created by a dam on the Golo. The lake is divided between its eastern shore in Calacuccia and its western shore in Casamaccioli.

Culture

The Église paroissiale Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul in Calacuccia has an elongated floor plan, a triangular gable and a bell tower forming the gable wall. It has three devotional niches and a semicircular oculus with glass windows. The church is dated to the year 1600; in addition, the 17th century is provisionally attributed to it as the period of its construction.

Calacuccia includes high-altitude mountain shepherds’ huts; some are located on the Plateau du Pasciu at almost 1,500 m above sea level. A monastery in Calacuccia was founded in 1600 and is considered an important testament to the region’s religious history.

History

In Calacuccia’s old town centre, there are houses with external staircases; one of the buildings dates from 1560.

The Pont de la Funtanella is an exceptional 15th-century bridge with four arches. For centuries, it enabled Niulinchi shepherds to cross the Golu during the muntagnera.

Hiking

The Mare à Mare Nord and its variant include sections at altitudes of 1,500 m and can therefore only be hiked from mid-April to November.

The Mare à Mare Nord long-distance trail leads from Moriani to Cargèse via Corte, covers 139 km, is designed to be completed in 11 to 12 hiking days and has stages lasting 4 to 9 hours.
