Bocca del Oro: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Palneca lies deep in the Taravu valley among granite ridges, forests, springs and streams. The village is part of the Parc Naturel Régional de la Corse and lies on the right bank of the Taravu, south of the Col de Verde and at an altitude of over 800 metres. Its granite houses line the mountain slope.

Landscape and trails

The GR 20 borders Palneca’s municipal territory to the north and east. As an alpine high-altitude route, it is very demanding, reserved for experienced hikers, and features significant elevation changes as well as technically challenging sections.

Centuries-old mountain paths cross the mountains around Palneca and lead to the neighbouring villages. Trout can be caught in the Taravu and its tributaries.

Culture and history

The Sainte-Marie parish church in Palneca was built from 1885 onwards to replace an older building and was restored in 1930 and 1940. Among the oldest village houses are buildings bearing the dates 1609 and 1615.

Within its territory, Palneca preserves traces of former settlements, including one on a small plateau near the now-ruined medieval Sainte-Marie church. The archaeological distribution along A Strada Taravesa attests to its use since at least the Bronze Age.

Local produce

Traditional products made in Palneca include cured meats, honey, and goat’s and sheep’s cheese.
