Ota: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Ota is a village situated on a hillside amid terraces planted with olive trees. The village provides access to the Gorges de la Spelunca and is considered an important historical site of the Pieve du Sia.

Nature and landscape

The Scandola Nature Reserve is protected and accessible only by sea. According to a local legend, the rock on Mont Capu d’Ota is held in place by large chains installed by monks.

Trails and discoveries

The Corte–Ota hiking route reaches Ota via former transhumance trails. The Pont de Zaglia, a bridge from the Genoese era, is located on the Tra Mare e Monti, an old mule track connecting Ota with Evisa. The hike along the mule track between Ota and Évisa is described as easy and takes approximately three hours.

The tourist route Les vieux villages des deux sevi leads to Ota, the village of origin with characteristic houses and winding lanes in the upper part of the village.

Culture and history

The stone houses of Ota are adapted to the steep terrain and reflect traditional Corsican architecture. The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Ota is a Baroque church built between 1761 and 1782. The present church was built in place of an older medieval church that stood at the site of the current cemetery. Probably built in the 12th century, it was the main church of the Pieve de Sia in the Middle Ages.

The small votive chapel of Sainte-Lucie stands near a spring and a Roman site; on December 13, it is the destination of a traditional procession from Ota.

The Pont de Pianella is a stone bridge from the 17th century spanning the Porto River and is classified as a historical monument. It is a single-arch humpback bridge built after a model used by the Genoese administration.

The Tour génoise de Portowas listed as a historical monument by decree of June 22, 1946, restored, and opened to the public. It houses a permanent exhibition on the history of the Genoese towers in Corsica and is one of the towers built in the 16th century by the Genoese administration, which served as observation posts and small citadels against the Barbary corsairs operating in this Mediterranean region.

Every June, Ota Porto hosts the Fête de la musique and invites local musicians to perform at the Place de la Fontaine. Ota Porto also offers a taxi service that visitors can use for trips to neighboring municipalities, train stations, and regional attractions. Parking meters are installed at several strategic locations in the center of the village.
