History and Culture

The Church of Saint Lambert in Lavannes was classified as a historic monument by decree on 21 October 1911. It was built on a Latin cross-shaped floor plan and stands on a raised earth plateau approximately three metres above the surrounding ground. The cemetery around the church is home to one of the very few torii in France and one of the oldest torii still standing.

The Gallic cemetery of Lavannes also points to the site's long history: it yielded three torques, including one with human figures, bronze and iron fibulae, swords, lances, a silver ring, and around forty vessels, some of which were decorated.

The painting „Feast of Belshazzar“ dates from the 18th century and was protected as a movable cultural object on 13 February 1952.

The wider regional surroundings of Lavannes include Gallia Belgica, an ancient site. Nearby are Fort de la Pompelle, a fort, the historic site of Abbaye Saint-Denis de Reims, the historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Clairmarais 1363-1473, and Square Colbert garden.
