Culture and History
The Église Saint Clément was built in 1855 in the Neo-Gothic style according to plans by the architect Gustave Guérin. The church contains a figure of Saint Clément from Nevers faience, dated 1713.
Opposite the municipal school, a hemp-drying oven is still standing; it is a reminder of the hemp cultivation that was widespread in the region until the 20th century. La Chapelle-aux-Naux also has a former Protestant temple, which was built as a result of a dispute among the residents.
Trails and Observation
The Sentiers des Varennes circular trail begins at the harbour, follows the Loire, passes through the Varennes and runs along the Vieux Cher. The 16-kilometre cycling loop “De port en port”, estimated to take 1 hour 30 minutes, offers the opportunity to observe birds in the Bords de Loire area.
Information panels describe birds such as the common tern with its red beak and red feet, the little tern with its yellow beak and yellow feet, the common sandpiper, the gull and the plover. Since May 2023, the Clémence II of the Association des Bateliers has had a gangway allowing people with reduced mobility to board.
