Azay-Le-Rideau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Château d’Azay-le-Rideau and its park can be freely explored on foot.
For travellers who want to combine the Château, hiking trails and wine in Azay-le-Rideau, renting a holiday apartment is a plan in its own right.
Culture and History
The Musée Maurice Dufresne displays historic vehicles, machinery, military objects, posters and other retro-mechanical artefacts from the period between 1850 and 1950. The museum offers a visit lasting almost three hours, with more than 3,000 objects.
The Église Saint-Symphorien is classified as a historic monument. The mill of Azay-le-Rideau has a central, bow-shaped building and roof timberwork dating from the 16th century.
Nature and Trails
The Azay-le-Rideau area includes a Natura 2000 site and other areas classified for the protection of ecological values. The Indre flows through Azay-le-Rideau.
The “Au détour de la Vallée du Lys” hike offers route options of 14.7 km, 9.1 km and 15.3 km. It combines built heritage, the Indre, woodland, troglodytic sites and agricultural land.
Other Experiences
The Vallée troglodytique des Goupillières has been open to the public since 2000 and provides an insight into the lives of farmers in earlier times. It also features a 40-minute woodland trail with puzzles. Visitors can also taste fouées there, a traditional culinary speciality of Touraine.
Wine and Local Cuisine
The Château de l’Aulée has a signposted vineyard trail with explanations provided via QR codes. Visitors can tour a wine-making and wine-ageing facility there and then taste Crémant de Loire, as well as white wines from Azay-le-Rideau and rosé and red wines from Chinon.
