Culture

At the Grand Moulin d’Abilly, the site on the Claise, a tributary of the Creuse, has been known since 1592. An external water wheel has been preserved at the Grand Moulin and is still operational; its internal mechanisms have also been preserved.

At least part of today’s Église Saint-Martin d’Abilly dates from the second half of the 11th century. Its floor plan corresponds to that of an ancient Roman basilica with three naves ending in apsidioles that open directly onto the transept. The apse and the transept are partially protected as historic monuments; the listing took place on 14 September 1949.

The Manoir de La Châtière in Abilly is partially protected as a historic monument. The protected parts include the courtyard gate, the northern and western buildings, the ruins of the chapel and the north-eastern tower.

The Archéolab was built at the Petit Paulmy archaeological site in Abilly to preserve the remains uncovered by archaeologists. It enables visitors to truly understand a prehistoric site; educational tours are available on request.
