Saint-Avertin: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

An important historical site in Saint-Avertin is the Château de Cangé. It was built in the 13th century and listed in the register of historic monuments. During the Second World War, the château housed President Albert Lebrun and the services of the Presidency of the Republic for five days. It is located in a 15-hectare park on the hillside.

Nature and Trails

The Domaine de Cangé includes an arboretum open to the public, designed as a collection of notable trees. It contains around thirty trees; a map guides visitors to the park’s nine most notable trees.

The Sentier du vieux Cher, Cangé is an 8.4-kilometer hiking trail with a walking time of around two hours. It passes through meadows that serve as a transit area for migratory birds.

Winegrowing continues on the hillside of Saint-Avertin, where Touraine wines such as Noble Joué AOC are produced. Nearby, a hiking trail leads to the Bois des Hâtes, whose wildlife park is home to deer and old, notable oak trees.

History and Culture

L’Annexe is a municipal contemporary art center in the Jardin des Rives of Saint-Avertin. It hosts a series of contemporary art exhibitions every year; lectures, guided tours, and workshops with artists are also offered.

L’Orangerie at the Domaine de Cangé is an exhibition gallery that primarily presents local artists. Every year, it displays numerous works free of charge to the public.

The galleries of the Limançon springs are also part of the area’s history: until 1856, water from these springs supplied several fountains in Tours and a number of selected locations. Since 1996, the galleries have been a municipal facility and can be visited during special openings.

Events and Markets

The Festival des Horizons is free of charge and takes place every year on the last weekend of June at the Domaine de Cangé in Saint-Avertin. For two days, it offers concerts in front of the Château de Cangé, along with food stalls and a craft village featuring local creations.

Nature en fête is an annual garden festival at the Domaine de Cangé. The program includes a gourmet market, an organic market, arts and crafts stalls, and a wellness area.

The L’Intime Festival has taken place every winter since 2009 and offers audiences intimate live performances by artists on stage.

By the Cher

Port-Avertin – Guinguette de Saint-Avertin offers free concerts and open-air cinema. The guinguette also provides small boats for trips along an arm of the Cher. The “Au bord du Cher – Boucle vélo de la Métropole de Tours No. 5” cycling route passes by it.
