The Sauldre Canal crosses Brinon-sur-Sauldre and connects Blancafort with Lamotte-Beuvron.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Barthélémy has been listed as a historic monument since 1926. Its nave dates from the 12th century, while the choir and polygonal ambulatory date from the 15th century. The church also has a bell tower built entirely of wood, rising from the floor of the nave.

The Fontaine Saint Aignan can be reached via a small path that crosses private property; the owners have granted access. The château in Brinon-sur-Sauldre was built in 1604 for Jacques de Senectere.

Canal and Trails

The Les Bouffards lock site comprises a lock, a lock keeper’s house and a bridge, built between 1865 and 1869. The Les Bouffards lock site is representative of the lock sites along the Sauldre Canal. The Sente Bleue, a signposted hiking trail, also runs along the Sauldre Canal in Brinon-sur-Sauldre.

The Circuit Raboliot – petit itinéraire passes through Brinon-sur-Sauldre and offers the opportunity to discover its wildlife and plant life, as well as the Sauldre Canal. The Circuit du bois des buissons passes through successive woodland and pond landscapes, where the stories of Maurice Genevoix come alive again. The Clémont–Brinon-sur-Sauldre loop follows in Raboliot’s footsteps through the Sologne and provides an opportunity to discover its wildlife and plant life.

Nature and Activities

The Maison de la Forêt presents the landscapes of Raboliot’s territory, as well as the local wildlife and plant life. It also showcases traditional occupations associated with the forest and woodworking, and additionally offers three walking routes.

The Club Hippique de Brinon is accredited as an École Française d’Équitation and enables beginners and experienced riders alike to ride at their own pace.
