Bois de Montfée is designated as an Espaces Naturels Sensibles (ENS) site within the Côte-d'Or network of sensitive natural areas. It is located in the municipalities of Semezanges and Ternant and has been identified as a biodiversity reservoir for the intermunicipal area.

Nature
Bois de Montfée lies on a limestone plateau dating from the Upper Jurassic, covered by flint-bearing loams that produce highly acidic soil. Bois de Montfée is home to an oak forest on limestone that is described as very rare and acid-loving.
Bois de Montfée combines a forest situated on a hill with adjoining open habitats such as heathland, meadows and grasslands. These are home to trees with deadwood or tree cavities, as well as the biodiversity dependent on them.
The forest of Ternant surrounds the village to the north, west and south; the forest of Semezanges lies to the northeast.
Culture
The Great Dolmen of Ternant is covered by a stone slab more than five metres long; it was restored in 1975. Several megalithic burial sites have been recorded in the municipality of Ternant.
The statue of Saint Roch with an angel and a dog in the Saint-Laurent church in Ternant is classified as a protected sculpture.
The château is partially protected as a Monument historique; the protection covers two building sections, including the connecting staircase and wooden gallery, as well as an oratory.
Geographical location
A municipal road leads from the centre of Ternant to Bois de la Combe d'enfer, running from west to east. In the vicinity of Ternant, the view extends southeast towards Butte de Vergy; the church of Reulle-Vergy can be seen there.
