Salives: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Salives is a medieval village in a green valley where the Tille rises. The rectangular keep dates from the early 11th century and is approximately 18 metres high.

History

Above the source of the Tille stands the Église Saint-Martin. Its Romanesque choir dates from the 11th century, while its nave dates from the 12th century. The Lavoir de la Source-de-la-Tille was built in 1843 with a monumental round-arched vault and five double arches, and is fed directly by the source of the Tille.

The fortified well was probably built in the 14th century to protect the castle’s water supply during a siege, and was directly connected to the source of the Tille. The Croix de rogations was erected in 1677 and listed as a historic monument on 8 July 2009.

L’Abreuvoir is a cultural centre and cinema with 220 seats, which can also be used for conferences, seminars and performances.

Trails and Experiences

The heraldic trail leads to noteworthy places and homes in Salives via reconstructed coats of arms. The geological trail comprises around 15 developed stations along a route approximately 20 kilometres long and explains the geology of the region and its effects on landscapes, flora and fauna.

Golf de Salives has a natural, hilly 9-hole course measuring 2,800 metres in length, with numerous changes in elevation as well as groups of trees, beech trees and oak trees. The keep, town walls and spring of Salives are illuminated at night, making an evening stroll through the historic townscape possible.

The installation “La grotte merveilleuse” by John M. Armleder in the washhouse was inaugurated in 2001. Visitors can activate its lighting programme.
