Auxey-Duresses lies at the entrance to a valley that stretches from the Côte de Beaune into the Hautes Côtes towards La Rochepot and Autun. Culture and History

The Saint-Martin parish church is protected as a historic monument; it was listed as a protected monument in 1985. It was already mentioned in 1223 as the “new church” and was part of a fortress that was destroyed in 1593. Its regular ground plan is shaped like a Latin cross with two northern side chapels. It also has a rectangular bell tower and a tuff-stone spire. The triptych “Triptyque de la vie de la Vierge” is currently on display in the northern chapel of the parish church.

Before Saint-Martin was built, the Church of Saint-Symphorien in Petit-Auxey was the parish’s mother church. Monks from Saint-Symphorien Abbey in Autun took it over in 696. The original church is considered a 7th-century building; the nave was rebuilt in the 10th century and the bell tower was added at the beginning of the 13th century.

Wine and Culinary Delights

The Clos du Moulin aux Moines winery was founded in 962 by monks from Cluny Abbey. Its 16 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming and biodynamics.

At “Dégustation Vins et Chocolats” in Auxey-Duresses, visitors can discover selected fine chocolates intended to showcase the interplay between wine and chocolate. Every year, on the fourth weekend of October, the “Coup d’œil, Coup de cœur” event also takes place, when Auxey-Duresses opens its wine cellars to the public.
