Comblessac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Comblessac is characterised by a succession of chapels, churches, crosses and paths through the countryside. Between religious tradition, distinctive stone formations and the course of the Aff, the village presents a varied landscape.

Culture and Religious Heritage

The pilgrimage chapel of Notre-Dame de Lorette was rebuilt in 1883 in place of an older 17th-century sanctuary. A pilgrimage to the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Lorette has been documented since the 14th century. The Chapelle is designed in the Neo-Gothic style, with a small bell tower on the façade, a polygonal apse and rib vaults.

The parish church of Saint-Eloi was built in 1850 according to plans by Louis Leray and consecrated on 10 May 1852. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; it also has a single-nave layout, a bell tower crowned with a slate spire above the entrance portal, and a flat-ended choir with a two-storey sacristy attached to the side.

Historical Features in the Village

Other points of interest include the Heptagone du Mur. It consists of the remains of a Gallo-Roman temple of the fanum type and is situated on a hilltop. Sainte-Anne de Craon was rebuilt in 1756.

The Croix Bouëxic wayside cross was carved from a single block of slate and may date from the late 15th or early 16th century. It has an octagonal shaft with arms at the back and a circular form with a double wreath of opposing teardrops; the crucified figure was roughly carved out of the stone.

The 1924 Croix de mission stands in the village centre on the road towards Guer. It is an octagonal slate monolith with a halo mounted on top, cut into at the centre, and four visible teardrops. On the road to Quelneuc, the Celtic road known as the Voie d’Ahès has a clearly visible structure. The pilgrimage to Notre-Dame des Brûlais continues to this day. The Chapelle Saint-Conwoïon was built at the end of the 19th century near the remains of the birthplace of Saint-Conwoïon.

Paths along the Aff

Between Guipry-Messac and Comblessac, the voie verte follows the former railway line from Châteaubriant to Ploërmel.

The Les Coteaux de l’Aff circular trail follows a meander of the Aff and part of the voie verte. The stated duration of the CO1 Les Coteaux de l’Aff circular trail is three hours; it starts at the Place de la mairie in Comblessac and is 12.4 kilometres long. The Sainte-Anne chapel on the Les Coteaux de l’Aff circular trail was recently restored and crowned with an elegant small bell tower.
