Goudelin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Goudelin reveals its history in unusually tangible forms: religious buildings preserve traces of several centuries, manor houses tell of successive construction phases, and parts of the former mill machinery have survived at the Moulin de Kernéguez. This picture is complemented by landscape features that bear witness to rural life.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Pierre was built in 1717 on the ruins of an original 12th-century church. From 1784 onwards, it was rebuilt with a nave featuring six bays and side aisles. The church was given a striking finishing touch in 1881 with a 42-metre-high bell tower topped by a notched spire. The Église Saint-Pierre in Goudelin also contains a processional banner depicting Saint Peter and the Crucifixion.

The manor houses likewise reflect different eras. The principal construction phase of the Château de Montjoie dates from the 17th century; in 1845, the château was extensively remodelled. The Château, Kergoff was probably built in the first half of the 19th century and stands on the site of an earlier manor house. Its rectangular façade has seven bays and a central triangular pediment.

At the Moulin de Kernéguez, the headrace and tailrace, sluice gates, weir and mill channel have all been preserved. A vertical water wheel with flat paddles has also been reinstalled on the rear façade. This means that not only the buildings but also key elements of the former operation have been passed down to the present day.

Landscape and Trails

Around Goudelin, the landscape preserves traces of former rural life in its flax retting ponds, washhouses, mills and spillways. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de l’Isle also belongs to this historic setting: it was built at the end of the 14th century by the monks of Beauport on the site of an older oratory. Its square tower ends in a gallery in the Flamboyant Gothic style. The bell tower and the porch were partially classified as historic monuments by decree of 20 January 1913.

The small Chapelle Saint David is a stopping point on the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela. For cycling, a mountain-bike variant leads from the Moulin de Blanchardeau through Goudelin and also through Gommenec’h, Tréméven and Lannebert. The Circuit du Viaduc de Blanchardeau is a 13-kilometre, family-friendly mountain-bike loop that passes the Chapelle Notre-Dame de l’Isle. In the wider Goudelin area, the VTT network of Leff Armor Communauté offers 272 kilometres of developed, maintained and signposted routes. The Circuit de la Petite Filandière continues from the Chapelle Notre-Dame de l’Isle towards Lannec.
