Belle-Isle-En-Terre: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Curieux de Nature Aquarium in Belle-Isle-en-Terre features ten freshwater and estuary aquariums. It offers a fun way to discover the Breton rivers from their source to the sea.

The Centre Régional d’Initiation à la Rivière is a center for discovering and raising awareness of aquatic habitats in Belle-Isle-en-Terre. It organizes themed excursions for summer visitors.

Nature and Trails

Since April 2021, the Station Sports & Nature has offered a 16-kilometer route along minor roads and well-maintained paths. It is suitable for all levels and all types of bicycles, including mountain bikes, trekking bikes, and electric bicycles. In addition, the station’s program includes around thirty activities, including nature activities, workshops, and Rand’eau.

The Station Sports & Nature also has 200 kilometers of signposted trails categorized by difficulty and experience level for families, hikers, athletes, and professionals. The Forêt de Coat-an-Noz et Coat-an-Hay is a Natura 2000 site with hiking trails for walkers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers. Two botanical trails can be explored at the foot of the Château de Coat an Noz.

The Kernansquillec nature area is open to the public. A themed trail near Kernansquillec allows visitors to learn about the history of the site. The Les Jardins du Guer fishing course stretches for 800 meters along the Léguer and is intended for beginners. The Kernansquillec site reopened in May 2017 for catch-and-release fishing.

History

The parish church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur was built during its main construction phase in the last quarter of the 19th century and designed by the architect Ernest Le Guerranic.

The Château de Coat an Noz was built in the mid-19th century on the remains of an older fortified site, the Manoir de La Bosse. In 1929, it was purchased by the industrialist Robert Mond for his wife, known as Lady Mond.

The Château de Belle-Isle was probably built in the 12th century at the behest of the counts of Brittany. Today, only the platform and traces of an urban fortification remain. The site is divided among several private properties and is used as a garden.

Culture

The Chapelle Locmaria, also called the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Pendréo, overlooks the Léguer valley. The chapel’s polychrome wooden rood screen is its main feature; its frieze depicts twelve carved apostles.

The Papeteries Vallée are experiencing a revival through cultural and artistic engagement.

Local Life

The producers’ market in the halls of Belle-Isle-en-Terre offers local products on Tuesday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. Belle-Isle-en-Terre received the Village étape label in 2017.
