The Notre-Dame church in Vergheas houses the remarkable wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, “Vierge en majesté”. It was placed under protection as movable cultural heritage on 25 February 1899.

The church building has a nave, projecting transept arms and a semicircular apse. Notre-Dame de Vergheas was crowned in 1963 and is one of the five crowned statues of the Virgin Mary in the Puy-de-Dôme département. The choir windows were created by the glass artist Alain Makaraviez.

The Notre-Dame de Vergheas pilgrimage takes place every year on the Sunday after 15 August. The history of the village also includes the fact that salt smugglers operated in Vergheas. The village is freely accessible every day throughout the year for individual visits.

Landscape

The blue-marked Balade à Vergheas circular hike is 4.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. It passes the Chapelle de la Vierge before returning to the starting point.

The Roche d’Agoux circular hike is 17 kilometres long and takes approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes. It is classified as difficult, follows a circular route and is marked in green. The route begins below the ambulatory of the Notre-Dame church in Vergheas and includes the Maison des notaires royaux as a stop.
