Culture
The Église Saint-Julien has been listed as a historic monument since 1907. It was founded at the end of the 11th century as a Benedictine priory; its choir capitals depict a fantastic bestiary.
Jules Romains was born in 1885 in La Chapuze, on a farm belonging to the Farigoule family.
At the Chapelle de la Chapelette, the nave and apse appear to date from the Romanesque period. The west façade and bell tower are said to have been rebuilt in the 17th century.
Nature
Le Suc de Chapteuil is a large rock formation made of organ-pipe rock and represents a former volcanic vent. The remains of the Château des seigneurs de Chapteuil can be seen on the Suc de Chapteuil.
Information panels explain the connection between the geology and the history of the site; there is also an orientation table at the summit.
Hiking
A signposted hike to the Suc de Chapteuil begins at the car park by the VVF. The round trip takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes and involves approximately 120 metres of elevation gain.
The PR167 La Chapelette trail passes through the scattered hamlets of Saint-Julien-Chapteuil before reaching the Chapelle de la Chapelette.
The PR694 Le sentier des étoiles trail leads from Saint-Julien-Chapteuil to the Observatoire du Betz.
The T01 – Suc de Chapteuil route has only a small amount of elevation gain and offers beautiful panoramas.
