Les Vastres: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nature and trails

Les Vastres lies at an altitude of 1,121 m; the maximum elevation is 1,215 m. The municipality is one of those covered by the Haute vallée du Lignon Natura 2000 site.

The long-distance hiking trail Chemin de Saint Régis leads from Les Vastres via Lac de Saint-Front to Freycenet-la-Tour. Along the way, the landscape opens onto the Mézenc high plateau, extensive pastures and unspoilt nature.

In the municipality of Les Vastres, the Lioussel flows into a sinkhole between the hamlets of Villelonge and Champagne, forming a waterfall. In this marshland, it is possible to spot a grey heron or a Montagu’s harrier.

The sinkhole near Villelonge can be reached on foot from the centre of Les Vastres via the PR389 marsh trail. Behind the hamlet of Villelonge, an accessible path leads through the forest to it. It is also possible to approach it by car and leave the car in a designated car park at the hamlet of Villelonge.

Culture and history

The Dolmen des Pennes is located in the village of Les Pennes, 4 km north of the centre of Les Vastres, and is remarkably well preserved. It has been classified as a French historic monument since 4 January 1968.

The façade of Sainte-Anne Church, rebuilt in 1890, incorporates the former Gothic portal. Sainte-Anne Church in Les Vastres replaced the original Saint-Théofrède Church in the 14th century.

The Croix de Vieille Église stands at a site where one of the first churches in Les Vastres was presumably built in the 12th century.
