Culture and History
The Musée Fantastique de la Bête du Gévaudan presents the story of the Beast of Gévaudan in a tour featuring 22 scenes. The Chapelle des Pénitents was built in 1681 by the Brotherhood of the White Penitents, extended by a sacristy in 1783, and is one of the few surviving penitents’ chapels in the département.
The Église Saint-Médard, a former collegiate church (former collegiate church), features a Romanesque lower bell-tower porch, surviving remains of the original Romanesque structure, and a mixture of Gothic vaulting and classical architecture.
The Tour des Anglais is a 23-metre-high military structure with two floors and a terrace. Three sixteen-century? Wait. dated to 1575, connected with the Wars of Religion, are displayed on this terrace.
The Lainerie du Gévaudan presents the history of wool processing in the Pays de Saugues through self-guided visits and guided tours by appointment. On request, it offers introductory courses and workshops on felting or weaving. The Confrérie des Pénitents Blancs de Saugues continues the traditional Passion procession on Maundy Thursday.
Markets and Events
The Michel-Malige market in Saugues holds a calf market on Mondays and a sheep market on Fridays.
The Festival en Gévaudan has been held in Saugues for 19 editions and attracts more than 10,000 festivalgoers each year with Celtic and other music.
Landscape and Trails
PR086 Les trois tours is a challenging 21.5-kilometre hiking route that starts and ends in Saugues. Another hike starting in Saugues passes through the Margeride, a heathland area with granite blocks and peat bogs containing dwarf birches.

The EARL du Trouquet sells traditional pork products in the form of sausages as well as mutton directly from the farm; visitors should call before visiting.
