Saint-Julien-d'Ance: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of Saint-Julien was rebuilt in the Gothic style and comprises three naves with polychrome keystones. Beneath its pentagonal apse lies a crypt dating from the late 15th century.

The crypt of the Church of Saint-Julien was classified as a historic monument by decree of August 5, 1920, and is one of only three surviving crypts in Haute-Loire.

Culture and history

Only the portal remains of the Romanesque predecessor of the Church of Saint-Julien. The Chapelle de Peret dates from the early 19th century and preserves furnishings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Chapelle d'Uffarges was built in the mid-19th century at the village's expense. Beside it stands a stone cross dating from the 16th century, which was entered in the French register of protected historic monuments by decree of June 11, 1930.

The origins of Moulin d'Ancette date back to 1345; following its reconstruction in 1868, the mill acquired its present appearance. During tours of Moulin d'Ancette, visitors can discover the “petit musée de Jojo” with its collection of old tools. During organized tours, Moulin d'Ancette operates again.

Nature

The Eboulis de Bourianne are a collection of basalt blocks shaped by the erosion of volcanic landforms. The Ance is a Natura 2000 river. Thanks to the quality of its waters, it supports diverse aquatic fauna and is home, among other species, to freshwater pearl mussels.

Hiking

PR689 Autour du Champdieu is a moderately difficult 9.2 km circular hiking trail. It begins and ends in Saint-Julien-d'Ance and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

From Saint-Julien-d'Ance, the Eboulis de Bourianne can be reached by following the “coulée de lave” signs. Parking is possible along the D352 at the level of the hamlet of Bourianne. The hike takes 1 hour and 45 minutes, is 3 km long, has an elevation gain of 140 m, and is difficult in sections.
