Prades is built between granite and basalt. The landscape combines striking volcanic formations with trails, water activities and traces of history.

Those choosing Prades as a destination can combine their stay with the desire to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

La Roche Servière is a rock with volcanic organ pipes, formed from an ancient lava flow and reaching almost 90 m in height. It can be reached on the right bank of the Allier along the D48. At the foot of basalt columns in the heart of the Allier gorges lies Plage de Prades; it is mentioned as a particularly suitable stopping and viewing point. An information board at La Roche Servière explains how the formation came into being.

The PR217 Les ruisseaux hiking trail begins in Prades. It is classified as difficult, is 11.8 km long and takes about four hours.

The five-day programme “Le Haut Allier: Prades–La Vialette” begins in Prades with an introductory canoeing session on a body of water below Prades’ imposing basalt organ pipes and leads from Prades to La Vialette in the Haute-Loire département.
