Polminhac: Holiday apartments and houses

The Château de Pesteils was built in the 13th, 17th and 19th centuries; its keep is 40 metres high. This château is located in the immediate vicinity of Polminhac. As the access road is narrow, visitors with large vehicles are advised to park in Polminhac and walk for about 15 minutes to the château.

Culture and history

The Château de Clavières, including the chapel, outbuildings, park and pond, is protected as a historic monument in its entirety; it was listed by decree dated 6 October 2021. The Boucle des châteaux route offers various views of the Château de Clavières in Polminhac.

The oldest parts of the Église Saint-Victor, including the choir and bell tower, date from the early 13th century; the bell tower may even date from the late 12th century. Jacques Berthieu was born in Polminhac and killed as a martyr in Madagascar in 1896.

The fortified Château de Vixouze is mentioned as early as 1267. It retains a rectangular keep, a chapel built in the 17th century and a bread oven. Further alterations include its conversion into a pavilion in the 17th century, an enclosing wall dating from 1719, a rear building from the 18th century, a well from the 19th century, and a barn bearing the dates 1613 and 1777.

Nature and trails

The Boucle des Gravières is a marked, easy 3-kilometre circular trail along the Cère. The route passes through a small forest and by a hidden lake in the valley.

The Autour du Donjon route climbs to the heights of Polminhac, mostly through woodland, and offers various views of the Monts du Cantal and the château.

Le Pas-de-Cère, a waterfall, is located in the vicinity of Polminhac. Le Courpou Sauvage, a mountain, and the Puy de la Poche, a mountain, are also nearby.

The Puy de Bassierou, a mountain, lies in the wider surrounding region of Polminhac.
