Culture

The “Site remarquable du goût Mourjou – Châtaigneraie Cantalienne” designation links Mourjou with the chestnut as an emblematic product and highlights the related local skills, as well as its cultural, ecological and heritage values. In the processing workshop at the Maison de la Châtaigne, visitors can watch chestnut flour being made. Chestnut products associated with Mourjou include roasted chestnuts, chestnut flour and chestnut jam.

The Church of Saint Médard is also part of the village landscape. It dates from the 16th century; its tower has an imperial dome topped by a small belfry. The Foire de la châtaigne in Mourjou takes place every year on the penultimate weekend in October.

Nature

The “Les trésors du Haut Célé” circular trail is 3.5 km long, takes 1 hour and 30 minutes and has an elevation gain of 124 metres. It passes through a sensitive, protected natural landscape where freshwater pearl mussels still occur, and leads to the gorges of the Haut-Célé through different habitats and diverse vegetation.

The “Les Châtaigniers” hiking trail follows paths lined with chestnut trees; along the way, you may be able to see a small Sécadou, a chestnut dryer.
