The Chapelle de Roquenatou lies at an altitude of 900 metres, secluded in the forests on the slope; at the same time, it faces the volcanoes of Cantal. It is the only surviving trace of the medieval fortress of the same name. A pilgrimage to the chapel still takes place every year, during which the Virgin Mary is honoured.
Marmanhac is also worth considering as a destination when looking for a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
The Château de Sedaiges is a medieval and neo-Gothic château in Marmanhac. It has been listed as a historic monument since 24 September 1987.
The Château de Sedaiges has been owned by the same family since 1442. As a result, it preserves original furniture and furnishings from various periods, including traditional costumes, everyday objects and toys.
The Église Saint-Saturnin also offers an insight into the history of the area: it dates back to a priory that existed in the 12th century and was dependent on Aurillac Abbey. The southern Gothic church has a low nave, opening onto six chapels that are now interconnected.
The Château de la Voulte is located in Marmanhac and was built at the end of the 15th century. It has been listed as a historic monument since 15 September 1993.
Orientation
The Table d'orientation d'Alquier can be reached after a short walk from a small car park about 200 metres away. Access to the Table d'orientation d'Alquier is easy and possible all year round.
