The Château de la Roche is located in Chaptuzat. The castle retains an oval tower, the former keep; it is considered to be an almost unique keep with an oval floor plan in France.
Culture
The Château de la Roche has been listed as a historical monument since 19 October 1965. Its oval tower, the former keep, was classified as a historical monument on 25 January 1981. Michel de L’Hospital, Chancellor of France and a prominent figure during the Wars of Religion, was also born at the Château de la Roche.
The Église Saint-Pierre has been listed in its entirety as a historical monument since 6 July 1925. Its original section is Romanesque and dates from the 12th century; side aisles and chapels at the ends of the transept were added in the 19th century. The church stands in the lower part of Chaptuzat, surrounded by lime trees, plane trees, chestnut trees and other deciduous trees.

Hiking
The “Les Randonnées coucher de soleil – Chaptuzat” hikes pass by the Château de la Roche. They last around two and a half hours and are led by a state-qualified guide. They also include a sociable tasting of 100% local products.
The “Tour des 2 châteaux” hike in Chaptuzat offers a moderately difficult 7.5 km route with 200 metres of ascent. There is also an easier route of around 3 km with 70 metres of ascent.
