Culture and History
Château d’Apchon is one of the oldest castles in Auvergne; its ruins stand on a basalt neck at an altitude of 1,119 metres. The Église Saint-Blaise is a Romanesque chapel from the 12th century that was extended in the 15th century.
The Église Saint-Blaise houses a bronze Black Madonna and 17th-century altarpieces made by local craftsmen. The “Visite d’Apchon” app takes visitors on a 1.5-hour historical tour.
In summer, the tourist office and/or the Apchon Patrimoine au coeur association offer guided costumed tours at Apchon’s cultural site.
Château d’Apchon is open daily year-round and admission is free. The Église Saint-Blaise is open daily year-round and admission is free.
