Culture and History

The Chapelle Sainte-Agathe is a pilgrimage site that probably dates back to the Romanesque period. Its apse and two side apses may date from the 12th century.

The Domaine de Bussière-les-Nonains preserves the former abbey buildings, a kitchen garden with round basins, and a round chapel in a former fortified tower. This round chapel contains a 16th-century stained-glass window and a Romanesque holy water basin. The estate is located at the site to which the abbey was moved in the 13th century and also preserves a portal and a holy water basin from the 13th-century church.

Remains of settlements from the Gallo-Roman and Merovingian periods were found in the former parish of Moussais. The finds include sarcophagi, vases, daggers, and coins from various periods. They also include three clay statuettes in Gallic dress, suggesting a water cult.

The Chapelle Sainte-Agathe served as the setting for the wedding of Yvonne de Galais and Augustin Meaulnes in the film based on Alain-Fournier's novel “Le Grand Meaulnes”.
