Mercy: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In the village of Mercy in the Allier department, the Acolin rises at the Étang Casson at an altitude of 287 metres. The Étang Casson has a triangular shape; from its source in Mercy, the Acolin flows northwards.

Nature

The areas in Mercy that were once characterised by marshes and ponds are now pastureland. The Acolin crosses the meadows between Les Diots and Goulevent and reaches the end of the Étang des Rognons.

Between Les Breugnons and Les Potiers, a small watercourse passes beneath a path through a small stone-and-cement arch bridge.

The flambé butterfly has black, flame-like markings on its wings. The myrtil is a very common day-flying butterfly and prefers blue or mauve-coloured flowers. The common blue has blue upper wings in the male; the female has a mixture of brown and blue areas with orange spots.

History

Mercy was formerly known as Marcy-le-Vieux. Hemp used to be grown on almost every farm in Mercy, and vines were also formerly cultivated on almost every farm in Mercy. One farm in Mercy still bears the name “Les Potiers” today. Mercy is said to have once been associated with an industry that included a knife forge and a pottery.

Culture

The Église Saint-Pierre de Mercy was built in 1913. It has a longitudinal floor plan with a non-projecting transept and a semicircular apse. The church is not open to visitors.
