The present-day Barrage des Gannes was built between 1905 and 1907 and commissioned in 1908. It continues to serve as a drinking water reservoir for the residents of Commentry, holds 1,400,000 m³ of water and covers an area of 16 hectares.

Water
The Étang de Montmurier is located in the municipalities of Durdat-Larequille and Villebret. It has long been a meeting place for anglers from the surrounding area. Public fishing with a valid departmental fishing permit is also possible at the Barrage des Gannes.
Culture
The Roman road traces part of the 35-kilometre course of the Aqueduct of Viviers between Bois du Quartier and Néris. According to local historical tradition, the Rocher de la Baleine was the site of popular customs until relatively recent times. The Rocher de la Baleine is not accessible for walks.
Pilgrims and local residents attributed healing properties against various skin ailments to the Fontaine Saint Martial. The Fontaine Saint Martial is located on a hiking trail a few metres from the main exit of the village church.
Hiking
The PR25 hiking route, “Les 2 clochers: entre Tigoulet et Gannes”, is an 18-kilometre circular route with a duration of 4 hours and 45 minutes. It is classified in the orange difficulty category as “quite difficult”. For this route, the car park is located opposite Larequille town hall.
Depending on the weather, the Foyer Rural de Durdat-Larequille offers a monthly hike accompanied by volunteers.
Getting There
Durdat-Larequille is located at the intersection of the two major local traffic routes, D 2144 and D 69. Regional bus route B07 serves the town.
