Louvie-Soubiron: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Louvie-Soubiron stretches from the Ossau Valley to the Ouzom Valley. The village is built on the mountainside; on the way to the hamlet of Listo to the east, which lies at an altitude of 882 m, a more extensive view over the valley opens up.

Culture

Only the Romanesque apse of the Church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours, founded in the 12th century, has survived. Around 1880, the church received its bell tower and the only southern side aisle; the plans were drawn up by the architect Sabatté from Laruns.

Ashlar from the demolished church in Eaux-Bonnes was reused for the church's entrance portal. Marble from Louvie-Soubiron can also be found on door lintels and keystones in the village. The Louvie-Soubiron quarry contains grey-veined marble with cores of pure white marble.

Trails

The Circuit des carrières is a cultural and historical interpretive trail with several information panels on the subject of quarries and yellow trail markings. The circular route is an easy hike over 2.1 km with 220 m of elevation gain and a stated duration of 1 hour 30 minutes.

The Circuit des carrières leads to a white marble quarry with a picnic table.

History

On the heritage circular route to the Baburet mines, the mine galleries are closed to the public; however, their entrances can be viewed from the trail. The circular route runs through the municipalities of Ferrières and Louvie-Soubiron and covers the history of the former iron mines.

The former Forge de Louvie is evidenced by completely levelled wall remains and scattered slag heaps.
