Assat combines a listed château, historic religious architecture and trails with different focuses. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Assat therefore has a specific travel destination in mind.
Culture and History
The façades and roofs of the château in Assat have been listed as a Monument historique since 1 July 1959. Since that date, the painted ceiling of the large hall on the first floor has also been classified as a Monument historique. Four main beams divide it into five panels; polychrome motifs decorate its surface.
The Church of Saint-Sévère was built in 1873, replacing a Romanesque church on the banks of the Gave. It has three naves and ribbed vaults.
The “Balade Patrimoine: du village d’Assat à la bastide de Durfort” presents the history of the village of Assat from the Middle Ages to the present day. The very easy, approximately 2.5 km circular walking route takes about an hour and leads to the Pont d’Assat, which spans the Gave de Pau. The bridge has preserved its 1938 architecture and was extensively restored in 2005.

The cycling route “Circuit vélo 5: les coteaux de Piétat et la voie ossaloise” begins at the car park of Assat railway station.
Les Ateliers de la Cavale offers carriage rides on the Chemin Henri IV. The provider also offers activities adapted for and intended for people with disabilities, as well as the hire of pack donkeys.
Local Features
The orchard of the Conservatoire des Légumes Anciens du Béarn contains around one hundred fruit trees, including 45 different varieties of apple tree.
