Culture and history

The Church of Saint-Barthélémy de Tersac dates from the 11th century; its bell tower dates from the 17th century and its sacristy from the 18th century. It has been listed in the inventory of historic monuments since 1996. The church is located beside the canal and can be reached from the Voie Verte via the Tersac bridge as a detour.

The Church of Saint-Cybard in Meilhan-sur-Garonne contains two paintings mounted on canvas depicting the Nativity and the Annunciation. They hang opposite each other and frame the three windows of the apse.

Font d'Uzas was probably created during the construction of the fortifications between the 12th and 16th centuries and was for a long time the only source of drinking water for the municipality of Meilhan-sur-Garonne. From the Voie Verte, it can be reached a few hundred metres beyond the Halte Nautique in the direction of Bordeaux.

The wetland of Meilhan-sur-Garonne has an educational pond that enables the development of aquatic flora and fauna.

Paths and walking routes

The Voie Verte runs along the canal embankment and the former towpath and passes through Meilhan-sur-Garonne. Along it, you can cycle beside the canal, walk, use a pushchair or roller-skate.

The Brèche des Anglais is a steep, winding path that begins on the canal bank and connects the lower part of the village with the Tertre. It is the former Rue de La Roque, which was protected by a 1.50-metre-thick and probably considerably high wall that formed a bastion. The Canal des 2 Mers à Vélo cycle route lists the Brèche des Anglais in Meilhan-sur-Garonne as a stop. The “Meilhan, entre Canal et Garonne” route follows the towpath along the canal, passes through a tunnel beneath the canal and reaches Place du Tertre via Rue de la Brèche des Anglais.

The heritage trail of Meilhan-sur-Garonne is a 4.5-kilometre loop through the village with around ten stops. The Tèrra-Aventura trail “Qui voit Meilhan, va sano” is 3 kilometres long, takes a maximum of around 1.5 hours on foot and includes nine riddles. The treasure hunt offers a fun way to discover the area, the local heritage and anecdotes.

Local products

The Marché des Producteurs de Pays takes place on Place d'Armes on Wednesdays in summer, from 1 July to 26 August. At various producers' stalls, visitors choose what they want and put together their own meal.

Château Bois Beaulieu regularly organises festive activities, including traditional grape harvests, concerts in the courtyard and open days. The château produces organically grown red and rosé wines under the AOC Côtes du Marmandais designation.
