Culture
The present-day market hall of Lévignac-de-Guyenne dates from the second half of the 19th century. The present-day church was built between 1865 and 1868. It is designed in the Neo-Gothic style, has a Latin cross-shaped floor plan and a three-storey bell tower.
Around three kilometres southeast of the village lies the Sainte-Croix church, a Romanesque church from the 13th century. It was restored between 1984 and 1988; the site is now maintained and open to the public.
History
During the First World War, the rooms of the religious girls’ school known as “le couvent” were requisitioned to establish a military hospital for wounded or convalescing soldiers.
The Chemin de Ronde runs from the southern bridge to the northern end of the village and was probably laid out towards the end of the 15th century.
Walking and Cycling Routes
“La Balade de la Bastide” is an easy circular route on wide dirt or gravel paths, with views over the Dropt Valley and the hill of Duras, from which the château and clock tower stand out. The route is 6.3 km long and leads through the countryside, suitable for hiking and mountain biking.
Local Life
Since 2002, evening farmers’ markets have been held in the market hall during the summer. The summer “Marchés de Lévignac” offer regional products accompanied by music.
The weekly market in Lévignac-de-Guyenne takes place on Sunday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. from 12 July to 31 December 2026; local producers and craftspeople offer their goods there.
