Culture and History
In the centre of Aubiac stands the Romanesque Sainte-Marie Church, which is classified as a historic monument. It was built between the 9th and 11th centuries on the foundations of a Merovingian structure; sarcophagi from this period were discovered beneath the former sacristy. The dome above the trefoil-shaped choir features frescoes depicting the four Evangelists.
The Château d'Aubiac is also part of the historic townscape. It was badly damaged by a fire in 1784 and largely rebuilt into its present form. In the mid-14th century, the Château d'Aubiac was owned by the de Galard family.
The ruins of the former chapel known as La Gleysette lie in a wooded area on the Chemin de Marron. During excavations at the ruins, a bronze horse was discovered; it is on display at the museum in Agen.
