Vertheuil: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vertheuil is surrounded by vineyards near the Marais de Reysson. On a hill stands a castle with a rectangular keep dating from the late 11th century and a large fortification from the same period. The Porte de l’Audience gate from the 14th century retains its defensive features. In the valley, the village is grouped around the imposing abbey.

Since April 2015, the Petit Musée d’Automates has been located in the Abbaye de Vertheuil. It displays a collection of automata featuring everyday scenes in which animals imitate human life.

Since 2004, a 17th-century building and the courtyard of a winery in the village centre have housed the association Le Garde Mémoire – Écomusée du Centre Médoc.

The abbey church of Vertheuil is open all year round from 9:30 a.m.; admission is free. It is also an example of Romanesque architecture with Saintonge influence.
