The Église Notre-Dame de Massugas was listed as a historic monument by decree of 21 November 1925. It features a Romanesque nave clad in wood, as well as a choir and sanctuary dating from the same period.
Culture and History
The Église Notre-Dame also features a decorated cornice supported by corbels depicting barrels, pigs’ heads, human heads, intertwined figures, and head-to-toe figures.
The Moulin à aube du Courret dates from the 17th century. The Moulin de Rosière preserves an inscription carved into a lintel dating from 1729. Château Labatut was formerly owned by the Lords of Duras; several scenes from the film “Casque bleu” were filmed there.
The Maison noble de Vigouroux is a remarkable building in Massugas; its construction phases span from the 14th to the 18th century. Château Pailhas is also among the buildings in Massugas described as remarkable. Château Blanchet dates from the 19th century and was built from Astéries limestone.
Rivers and Local Character
The Soulège borders Massugas, and the Durèze also borders Massugas. Orchards of Ente plums contribute to the local economy of Massugas.
