Culture and history

The neo-Gothic bell tower of the Église Saint-Saturnin was restored in 2010. Toulenne’s original church dates back to the 11th century and is of Romanesque origin.

The historic port of Toulenne was used for loading Bordeaux wines. Lettuce and asparagus were products for which Toulenne was known. In the past, Toulenne also had small cooperages.

Events

The Association Toulenne Patrimoine Histoire organises concerts, exhibitions and tours at restored heritage sites in Toulenne; conferences are also planned for later.

As part of the 2026 European Heritage Days, free self-guided and/or guided tours will be offered at the Église Saint-Saturnin. An exhibition on the history and heritage of the village, as well as a collection of liturgical vestments, will also be on display.

The Fête de la Saint-Jean is considered a festival celebrating the return of summer, with music, a communal meal and a bonfire; in 2025, it took place in the arboretum.
