The Domaine de Montesquieu, also known as Château de La Brède, has been classified as a historic monument (“Monument historique”) since 7 May 2008.

The medieval core of Château de La Brède is open to the public and features an exhibition about Countess Jacqueline de Chabannes, a descendant of Montesquieu.

The Église Saint Jean d’Etampes is the oldest building in the municipality of La Brède and is known for its medieval portal and tetramorphic bell tower.
A medieval statue from the 11th century was discovered in the Église Saint Jean d’Etampes during restoration work in 2003.
The Église Saint Jean d’Etampes is open daily between 9 and 10 a.m. and closed between 6 and 7 p.m. In the centre of La Brède, tourist information boards highlight important monuments and places known to Montesquieu.
Nature and Circular Trails
The Saucats-La Brède geological reserve has held national nature reserve status since 1982 and was the first geological nature reserve established in France.
Guided visits to the Saucats-La Brède geological reserve last two to three hours and combine a discovery activity or workshops at the Maison de la Réserve with a short guided walk to the sites where finds were made.
La Brède has five circular hiking trails established by the municipality and two additional circular trails created through a partnership with the Communauté de Communes de Montesquieu. The trails can be used on foot or by bicycle and start at Parc de l’Espérance.
Boucle N°4 – Promenade des Châteaux is a 4.5-kilometre circular trail in La Brède with a stated walking time of one hour. Boucle N°1 – Le tour du Bourg is two kilometres long, with a stated walking time of 30 minutes.
Boucle du Brousteyrot is a 13-kilometre circular trail that crosses the Brousteyrot and runs along the Saucats-La Brède geological reserve. The Sentier des Fossiles in the Saucats-La Brède geological reserve is also 13 kilometres long. Château de La Brède is associated with the designations “Accueil Vélo”, “Le Tour de Gironde à vélo” and “Scandibérique”.
Tradition
The Fête de la Rosière is a three-day festival tradition in La Brède that honours Montesquieu; an 18-year-old Rosière is elected, and traditional events include a coronation ceremony and a procession.
