Talais: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “Boucle de Talais par le port” takes you through Talais along a 6.1 km very easy hiking trail; the route takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Hiking and Landscapes

Two signposted hiking routes have been created in Talais. Hiking guides are available from the town hall and can be downloaded online. Another very easy route is the “Grand Tour de Talais”: the route is 13.2 km long and takes approximately 3 hours.

A cycle path connects the oyster port of Talais with the Baluards oyster marsh and the dyke along the Gironde estuary. The route passes the Mattes, cultivated soils that lie below the level of the highest tides.

Culture and History

St. Martin’s Church was rebuilt in the 19th century on the ruins of a Romanesque predecessor building probably dating from the 12th century. Its exterior has been restored, and it also features choir paintings.

In a meadow, 250 m to the right of the “Grand Tour de Talais”, lie the remains of the probably Neolithic tumulus “Motte du Castéra”.

The oyster port of Talais was established by fishermen to make use of a former bed of Portuguese oysters.

Nature

After the banks of the canal leading to the estuary were landscaped and the huts renovated, the oyster port of Talais was opened to visitors. The Talais oyster marsh has a leisure area for fishing with a carrelet net.

In the oyster marsh, visitors can observe seabirds such as curlews, plovers, sandpipers and various other waders.

Local Character

In the oyster port of Talais, visitors can stop for refreshments in fine weather and taste oysters from the producer. Water quality in the Talais oyster marsh now allows oysters to be finished for sale to private customers.
