Sauternes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The former École St Pierre has been converted into a cultural centre with two exhibition halls and an area for associations. The Saint-Léon Chapel of the Lur-Saluces family is connected to the church by an iron door and has a burial chamber.

Château Filhot was founded in 1709 by Romain de Filhot, a councillor of the Bordeaux parliament. The château includes an English park designed in 1845 by the landscape gardener Fisher, laid out around the neoclassical château.

Wine and Market

In Sauternes, the restaurants offer the opportunity to discover new combinations of food and wine. In addition, a food market takes place in front of the village hall every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At Château Filhot, cellar tours are offered during which the wine-making process for this wine, with its aromas of candied fruit, is explained. By appointment, Château Lamothe Despujols offers discovery tours through the vineyard and cellar, followed by a tasting.

Trails and Landscape

The Grande boucle au coeur du vignoble de Sauternes is a 14.8-kilometre route for hiking and cycling. It begins at the Place de la Mairie, passes the church and washhouse along the Rue Principale, and then takes the rural path towards Vimeney. After 2.1 kilometres on foot, the route reaches Château Guiraud.

Château Lamothe Despujols is situated on a hill and offers panoramic views of the Landes Girondines and the Ciron Valley from its medieval motte.

Music

The Centre de Musique Ancienne Sauternes opened in September 2021 with the aim of creating a music programme focused on early music from the Renaissance to Romanticism and accessible to as many people as possible. Throughout the academic year, the Centre de Musique Ancienne Sauternes holds masterclasses; in addition to the primarily targeted participants, these are also open to auditors.
