Thiviers: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Thiviers is situated on a 276-metre-high hill above a hilly, green landscape, in whose valley the Isle and Côle rivers flow. At the same time, the town is the southern gateway to the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park.

Culture

The Notre-Dame church in Thiviers, Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, dates from the 12th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 15 November 1926. Two of its capitals depict monsters devouring people.

The Salle des Faïences displays around 100 pieces from Thiviers' faience production free of charge at the town hall on Saturdays. An interactive video there explains the manufacturing technique and the history of the faience factories. La Tour des Arts is both a shop and an association that promotes artists from the Thiviers area and their authentic, unique craft creations.

Nature

The 5-kilometre-long Sentier du Parc aux Prêles offers insights into Thiviers in the 19th century, as well as its fauna, flora, geology and the history of the Theulier family. Around Thiviers, there are approximately 400 km of paths where visitors can discover the fauna, flora and local cultural heritage.

On the move

Thiviers lies on the Vézelay Way of the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela, designated as GR 654. There is also the treasure hunt “Les cloches sonnent, sonnent!”, in which participants have to find Zouti.

Flow Vélo is a national cycle route that connects Thiviers in the Dordogne with Île d’Aix in Charente-Maritime over 290 km. Thiviers is the first stage of the Flow Vélo route towards Nontron. La Maison du Vélo Thiviers is located near the Thiviers tourist office at the start of the Flow Vélo and offers a covered bicycle parking area, a water station, luggage lockers, as well as a bicycle repair and maintenance kit.

Culinary delights

Ferme des Ages offers tours by appointment, as well as free tours with tastings for individual visitors. In its farm shop, it sells organically grown outdoor vegetables and walnuts directly. Foie gras and truffles are the highlights of the winter markets at the Thiviers market.
