Nailhac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The centre of Nailhac lies on a small plateau and is surrounded by rounded, wooded hills.

When planning a trip to Nailhac, you may wish not only to visit the Church of the Invention of Saint Stephen and follow the Nailhac Loop, but also to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture

The Church of the Invention of Saint Stephen in Nailhac is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. It has a bell gable with four round-arched openings. The fourth opening, on the south side, contains the church’s only bell; it was classified as protected movable cultural heritage on 13 July 1994.

Landscape

The Nailhac Loop trail runs through the surrounding area. It passes through walnut plantations and a landscape featuring numerous remarkable buildings.

Agriculture

At the hamlet of Le Verdier in Nailhac, in the Dordogne, lies Terre de Noyer, a family business that has combined Limousin cattle farming and walnut cultivation since 1932. Les Vergers de la Guillou farm produces walnuts and walnut kernels bearing the designation “AOP Noix du Périgord”.

Visits

In July and August, Terre de Noyer offers tours of the farm, workshops and oil mill on Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m.; groups can be welcomed year-round by reservation. Les Vergers de la Guillou offers guided farm tours showcasing the walnut orchard, its upkeep, harvesting, sorting and drying.

The guided tour at Les Vergers de la Guillou is almost entirely on one level and barrier-free. Upon request, a numbered written visitor document is available for people with hearing impairments; tactile access to the fruit and orchard is also possible. The Fête de la Noix in Nailhac takes place on the third Sunday in August.
