Lalinde: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lalinde is an English bastide founded in the 13th century by Henry III of England. Its regular town layout, with streets arranged at right angles and a central square, has been preserved to this day. The remains of the formerly fortified town include the riverside fortification walls and the Porte de Bergerac. The present-day market hall dates from the 19th century and replaced a market hall from the 15th century.

History and Townscape

The Canal de Lalinde was built between 1838 and 1843 between Mauzac and Tuilières. It includes locks, basins, aqueducts and lock keepers’ houses. The former lock house in Lalinde is the starting point for almost 200 km of signposted mountain bike and hiking trails. The Canal de Lalinde is also used for fishing and walking.

Nature and Trails

The Chapelle Saint-Front is located at the end of a rocky promontory and overlooks the Dordogne. The Véloroute Voie Verte V91 runs along the Canal de Lalinde between the locks at Tuilières and Mauzac.

The cultural walk through the bastide of Lalinde is designed as a self-guided tour lasting 60 minutes. It presents the legend of the Coulobre.

Market and Information

A traditional market takes place in Lalinde every Thursday morning in the streets opposite the town hall and on the central square. The Thursday market offers regional products such as duck, geese, chicken, strawberries and wine.

The Lalinde tourist information office is located near the Dordogne on the square by the market hall and provides advice on organising your stay.
