Le Pizou is located between the Forêt de la Double forest and the Isle River. Anyone considering Le Pizou as a holiday destination may want to rent a holiday apartment there.
Landscape and paths
The Véloroute Voie Verte de la vallée de l’Isle reaches Le Pizou at its southern end and can be travelled for more than 100 km on foot, by bicycle or on roller skates. Another route is the easy “Boucle des 2 écluses”: it is 9.4 km long, takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes, starts at the church car park in Le Pizou and runs along the Isle River.
Culture and history
The approximately 1.5-hour walking tour “Circuit coeur de village Le Pizou” leads to the Monument de la Plaine and the industrial remains of the Forges de Coly, located in Le Pizou. Only the chimney remains of the former forges. The Monument de la Plaine commemorates Resistance fighters who fell in the Second World War; on 22 August 1944, Resistance fighters attacked a German convoy, and nine Resistance fighters lost their lives that day.
The present-day church of Le Pizou was rebuilt in the 17th century after the former church was burned down during the Wars of Religion. A nearly intact coat of arms has been preserved on its walls.
Summer evening markets
The “Festines du Pizou” have been held as summer evening markets on Tuesdays in July and August since 2005. They include a market with 20 producers and traders, followed by a concert and an open-air disco.
