Cubjac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nature

The Causse de Cubjac is a type 2 continental ZNIEFF protected area. It includes, among others, the municipality of Cubjac-Auvézère-Val d'Ans and was designated because of its botanical and landscape interest.

On the banks of the Auvézère in Cubjac, there are green riverside areas and a pebble beach; a campsite is also located there. On a trip along the Auvézère, Cubjac is one of the river discoveries. Arriving in Cubjac offers a beautiful view of the banks of the Auvézère, which are ideal for a leisurely stroll.

Those who choose Cubjac as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture

The protected complex of Forge d'Ans includes the master blacksmith's house, the foundry, the park with its hydraulic valves and former blast furnaces, as well as the former power station. The Forge d'Ans operated from 1691 to 1830 and cast cannons for the Royal Navy. Its blast furnaces are undergoing extensive restoration and can be visited on certain open days organised by the « La route des canons » association.

Palaeolithic remains were discovered in 1969 at the Roc de la Belle site between the centre of Cubjac and the hamlet of La Côte. The Château de Cubjac preserves a 15th-century ensemble with a residential building flanked by three towers and once housed a collection of drawings by Constantin Guys.

The bridge of Cubjac was originally made of wood and formed a historic connection between Limousin, Angoumois and Saintonge on the one hand, and Quercy, Auvergne and Languedoc on the other. The former costume jewellery manufacturing facility at the weir on the Auvézère in Cubjac remains visible today as a distinctive building.

The Château de Marqueyssac has been listed in the register of historic monuments since 2013 and is undergoing extensive preservation work.
