Rimbach-Près-Guebwiller: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rimbach-près-Guebwiller combines a documented history with distinctive hiking trails in the Vosges. The Église paroissiale de L'Epiphanie is at the heart of the village’s history: it was rebuilt from 1866 to 1869 according to plans by Auguste Hartmann from Colmar, extended with a bell tower in 1897, and extensively restored in 1928.

Culture and History

The first documentary mention of Rimbach-près-Guebwiller dates from 1291; at that time, the village was referred to as Rinpach. In the 18th century, the local economy was essentially based on glassmaking and the use of the forest.

The furnishings of the Église de l'Epiphanie also contribute to its historic character. The church is open every day and contains a well-preserved Opus 31 organ by Georges Schwenkedel. The sculpture group “Saint Valentin guérissant un épileptique” dates from the 16th century and has been classified as an object since 23 July 1976. An exploration adit entrance and traces of prospecting were also discovered on the slopes of the Ebeneck. They provide evidence of ore mining in the valley as early as the 16th century.

Landscape

The Rimbach is a tributary of the Lauch. In its upper course, it is fed by numerous springs that rise on the slopes of the Sudel, Firstacker and Grand Ballon.

Hiking

The short Rimbach–Ebeneck hike leads to the high pastures of the Ebeneck and is accessible to most people. The Rimbach–Ebeneck hiking trail is 5.6 kilometres long, takes around two hours and has an elevation difference of 312 metres. From the summit of the Rimbach–Ebeneck loop trail, there is a beautiful view over the Alsatian plain.

The Rimbach–Judenhut loop is a moderately difficult hiking or snowshoeing route. It covers around 6.1 kilometres, takes approximately two hours of walking and includes around 415 metres of ascent and around 415 metres of descent. Along the way, there is a view of Guebwiller and its vineyards. The loop also passes the Munsteraeckerle, where tables, benches and a small hut are available.

A challenging two-day hike begins at the Aigle d’Or and leads to the ruins of Château du Freundstein and Hartmannswillerkopf.

Regional Cuisine

The Ferme-Auberge de la Glashütte is located at the exit of Rimbach-près-Guebwiller, at the foot of the Grand Ballon, and is an ideal starting point for hiking trails. Traditional cuisine and Alsatian specialities are served, including Marcaire meals, game dishes, Bouchée à la reine and products from the farm’s own agriculture.
